UPDATE: As of 10:25 CST the Google Talk Service has been restored across the board.

Google Talk goes down worldwide, yowch.

“Where does the narwhal bacon?” I query my wife via IM and after minutes pass without response, she suddenly appears to go offline.   I was left befuddled.  “Why has she not responded?  Her answer is vital to how I will approach the remainder of my day.” As a million thoughts rush though my mind on what could be happening on her physical side of our chat,  it dawns on me.  She’s not the one with issues, I’m not the one with issues.  Google Talk has gone down!

Okay, so maybe using “chaos” in the title is tad hyperbolic, but Google Talk (GTalk) came offline worldwide this morning. While many users are back online, Google is still trying to figure out what exactly the problem is. GTalk is still far and away my favorite chat client. But what good is the app if you can’t chat with anyone?

If you want to stay update on when service will be restored check out the Google Apps Status for Google Talk.

We’re aware of a problem with Google Talk affecting a majority of users. The affected users are able to access Google Talk, but are seeing error messages and/or other unexpected behavior. We will provide an update by 7/26/12 6:50 AM detailing when we expect to resolve the problem. Please note that this resolution time is an estimate and may change.
